Mouth Sores on Boxer

Question
My boxer has gotten several sores on the bottom of her chin.  I thought these might be from her chewing on the rawhide bones we give her.  Today I noticed she has a white sore on her jaw.  It kinda looks like a tick that's been feeding a while but its not  loose and it appears painful because when I touch it she pulls away.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Answer
It's hard to say without seeing the sore; it may be something like a pimple, but if it's painful it could be more along the lines of an abscess or boil.  You could perhaps try a warm compress on it (a warm-hot washcloth held gently against it for a few minutes, repeated (re-warming the washcloth) several times over a 1/2 hour or so), but if it doesn't come to a head or give her some relief I'd have a vet look at it.

As far as the other sores, since Boxers tend to have folds in their chins often bacteria and moisture can get trapped in there; you might want to start wiping her chin and muzzle with a warm washcloth, perhaps with some hydrogen peroxide on it (if they're not open sores), after she eats, or chews on a rawhide, or what have you, and then be sure to dry it thoroughly.

Good luck!!
