Question
We recently adopted a Boxerfrom a family that could no longer care for him.  He is a male, 4yrs old, 70 lbs.  They said he would "somethimes" sleep in their bed but most of the time was crated.  We crate him at night regularly and he wets his bed.  I was under the impression dogs don't pee or poop where they sleep but now perplexed, what to do?

Answer
I don' think he was crated- and that is why he is doing it now.

He is marking- he is rebelling against the confinement of the crate-- he is untrained- has not been raised properly or told what was acceptable and what is unacceptable.

Start from scratch and train him like you would a puppy: take him out before he goes to bed, first thing in the morning, and after each meal, and every 2 hours there in between..........

Reward him each time and praise him- encourage him and with positive reinforcement-- when he has an "accident" in the crate- take him outside immediately to show that is the proper place.

Do not crate a dog for more than during the night- which I am against and protest.

I think if you have to "crate" your dog- you do not need a dog.
