Question
Hi I have a 4 1/2 year old boxer that has started urinating in the house after having her  litter of puppies she has never done this before and it seems to be coming a real problem. She hasnt peed or pooped in teh house since she was a puppy and now it seems really out of control. She also seems to be peeing an excessive amount of urine.  When we let her outside she pees at least 4 or 5 times before coming back in and 30 mins later will pee in the house. This is her 3rd litter and has never done this before. Her puppies are 3 weeks old and she still has a small amount of blood when she pees. Is this normal please help! She not peeing in the same spot either she doesnt care wheres shes at she has even peed on the stairs and its a huge staircase any advice could she possibly have a uti?

Answer
Yes, she could very possibly have a urinary tract infection, or a uterine infection.  A vet check is in order, to see what's going on.  Be sure the vet knows she's still nursing puppies; some medications should be avoided.  If she's put on antibiotics, the pups will need to have a probiotic supplement - BeneBac or FasTrack are popular for puppies, because they have a metered dose system and the pastes aren't as messy as liquids.  After the bitch finishes the antibiotics, she should be put on probiotics (and the puppies kept on them) for the same length of time as the antibiotics course.  (You can give her probiotics while she's taking the antibiotics - about 3-4 hours later; it's debatable whether this will replenish the good bacteria or whether the antibiotics will kill them off, but it can't hurt and may help.)
