Question
My Gemma is just 15 months old, she had her first heat in March, and we didn't plan for another heat until Sept. That being said she went into heat again last month while we was on vac/honeymoon. The dog sitter came over to feed and water, and she and my male was stuck togather. This happened the 6/7th of July, it is now the 24th of July and she doesn't seem to me she is doing well. I am pretty sure she is pregnant, she has grown a little in her belly, her nipples are bigger and getting darker, they look to have little milk sacks filling under them, she has calmed down alot, almost to much, she is peeing more frequently, and all the pregnant signs are there but what worries me the most is she just started with a discharge, she isn't wanting to get up and move around much, she isnt eating much, she is walking like she is having a hard time with her hind legs and she may be in pain. This has been going on for about 4 days now. She went from active to sickly like over night it seems. I didn't think she would get like this till way later in her pregnancy. I'm going to take her to the vet for sure but I was hoping to wait a little longer so all the test would be able to detect the pups, but I don't want to wait to long if something could be wrong. I have never been around a pregnant female before I have always had a male dog. I'm really worried though and don't know if I'm over reacting or not. I think my having to make her get up and eat scares me the most, she has no desire to get up! PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN!

Answer
Three and a half weeks (if pregnant) does not make a bitch sickly.

Having a heat cycle in March and again in July, is only 4 months which is unusual, and she could have problems.

There is no way to diagnose without seeing her for myself and knowing more about her, however, I highly recommend you taking her to your vet and telling him or her exactly what you have told me so the vet can run tests and examine her for problems.

This is highly unusual behavior and symptoms of something wrong.
