My 9 year old female boxer seems to not be able to hold her pee.  She'll stare at me and then squat and pee.  We've always been able to go our for 6-8 hours and she's always been amazing.  She has a lot of allergies and is on allergy shots every other week.  She's also on prednisone.  Could this be old age or an issue that i need to get taken care of. We're going to the vet soon for shots and heart worm.  Any suggestions?

Answer
She is at senior age. With this, comes the inability to hold her pee for more than a few hours accompanied with more frequent peeing.

I do recommend speaking to your vet about it as you have here, in order to check her urinary tract for infection. If she has a bladder infection, it will only aggravate her frequent peeing and inability to hold it.

If she does not have any urinary infections or kidney problems, you might want to consider panties; they make a nice little Velcro-attached pantie for heat cycles which will serve the purpose in Princess' circumstance (don't forget to remove them when she goes outside and keep them washed and clean). You might want to consider buying a few of them while a pair is washing.

Be sure to speak with your vet about this problem and test her for urinary infections and kidney problems to rule out physical problems.

She is like an eighty year old woman, and needs Depends at this age. Bless her heart.

Let me know what your vet says after testing her, please-- in a follow-up.
