Question
my husband and i have rescued a 3 month old male brindle colored puppy.we would like to have an idea how big he might get and the best way to train him.hes a sweet dog and he gets along great with my two German shepards.thank you for your time

Answer
Well-bred adult male Boxers are about 24" tall at the withers (shoulders) and about 65-70 lbs.; however that does vary as many breeders don't pay attention to the standard - generally the dogs are bigger than is correct.  "Pit" is a generic term for a wide variety of breeds and cross-breeds, so it's difficult to give accurate information on that side - American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, and Bull Terriers - all of which are often included in the "pit bull" definition - are smaller than Boxers; American Bulldogs, Cane Corsos, Presa Canarios, Dogo Argentinos (etc.) are the same size or a bit larger.

As far as training goes, dogs respond well to positive-reinforcement-based training such as clicker training; this technique allows the trainer to tailor the sessions to give the dog the best chances of success, and encourages the dog to try new things in order to get a reward.  There are numerous books and websites about positive/clicker training, of course.  "Family Friendly Dog Training" by Patricia McConnell is a good starter book, and www.clickersolutions.com is an informative website - of course there will be links and recommendations from there.

Good luck with your puppy!
