Question
QUESTION: I have a few questions my female Jasmine came into first heat and got pregnant she just turned one the same time she got pregnant I assume that is when she got pregnant.  Should I be worried cause of her age and complications?  Also do I need to separate the dad Hugo from her and the pups when she has them?  And lastly her nipples are getting pink and she is gaining weight fast and I am thinking she has to be around 6 to 7 weeks?

ANSWER: Hi Sandra,

Yes, one is too young- and her first heat too- but what can you do now?

When she goes into labor, keep Hugo away, and keep him away from the puppies. She will. And she will fight him viciously to protect her puppies. In the wild, males often kill pups so they won't have challenges for alpha later- although Hugo wouldn't do that- it is her instinct to protect.

You need to Google and research whelping boxes and preparation for whelping and newborn puppy care- it is critical.

You need to feed her a high protein puppy food now and all through nursing pups. This is mandatory for her health.

Take her to your vet for a wellness check up. You might need vitamins too.

QUESTION: For how long do I keep them apart and at all times keep them separated what if she goes outside for air bring him in and keep him away from the pups they already fighting with each other well growling her more he just tries to stay away.

Answer
I haven't seen a female bother with a male as long as he does not have access to the puppies and area they are kept in.

Common sense: whelping box with pups and easy access for mom to get in and out closed off from the male.

Are the pups born already? Or is she just aggressive with him and being around him?
