My cats water obsession

Question
Hi Erin,

I don't know if this is your area or not, but I have a small concern.  I have a domestic short-haired female cat.  She is about 16 months old and is very obsessed with water.  She is constantly drinking it and loves to let the faucet run on her head.  She will NOT touch the water that is left in her water bowl, but is always right there when I turn on the faucet, flush the toilet, or turn on the shower.  I mentioned it to my vet during her last shot visit, but he said it was probably just her personality.  He also mentioned that it could also be a symptom of diabetes or something.  Is this odd behavior, or is it common?  Should I be concerned?  If not, when is it too much water?

Thanks for your help,
Jeannette

Answer
Finally another cat that is obsessed with water!  My cat sounds just like your cat,  if your worried have him tested for diabetes but most likely its the personality,  I usually give my cat something to drink every 4 to 5 hours unless hes begging for it most likely shes really thirty, my cat is so spoiled he only drinks ice cold water or running water and he wont' drink nothing else he also loves bein squirted with the squirt bottle unless its right in the face he just licks his body dry its so hilarious,  if your giving her water through the faucet let her drink until your done in the bathroom and just shut it off.
