Multiple cats when one is declawed

Question
Hi! I have a 4-year old female ragdoll cat named Snickers whom we rescued. For a reason unknown to us, her previous owners had her completely declawed. She has adapted very well to the declawing.

My question is this: we would like to get another cat. Can a cat who is not declawed or is only front declawed be introduced to Snickers? I'm concerned that Snickers won't be able to defend herself and I don't want to put her at a disadvantage.

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Terri

Answer
Hi Terri!

I don't think you would have any problem with another cat.  In most cases, when you introduce a new cat in a household, there will be some hissing and growling and slinking around for a bit, but there is usually not so much violence that claws will be needed... I hope not anyway!  Besides, ragdolls are very easy going and she will probably take up with another cat without much fuss.  Even if there is a confrontation, she will still use her paws as if she has claws and will "bat" at the other cat to intimadate them.  I really don't think you have to worry.  I'm sure, however, that you already know not to let her outside.  Not only would she not be able to climb a tree very well, but defense against a dog would be another story.
If you do bring home a new cat or kitten, just introduce them slowly and eventually everything should be fine. I've never had a problem with bringing in new pets.

God Bless,
