Question
hello there,
i have one stray cat who usually comes over to eat. she is two and not a single kitten she had ,has survived for more than two months. the last kitten she had died mysteriously. however just one day before, the kitten had vomitated and we saw these big white worms in it. do you think that the kitten might have died because of that? the mother appears to be healthy. what can i do to stop this from happening again?

Answer
Stray cats commonly have many parasites, worms are very common. Mom is not healthy - strays carry many things and generally live only 3 years unlike housecats who can live to be 18 years old. Worms will definitely be passed to all her kittens and they are serious and will kill the kittens. The first thing you might do is try to get a hold of mom. You would be doing her and the world a great service if you do the right thing and get mom to a vet and have her dewormed and SPAYED. That is what I suggest you do if you really want to prevent kitten deaths - just prevent her from having more kittens. That is the right thing to do. Even if you catch some of her kittens and have them treated, you have really done nothing because she will keep getting pregnant; she is suffering and her kittens are suffering and even if you get some kittens dewormed, you won't catch them all, and they will have other problems and the population of kittens is already so bad that thousands are killed every day in shelters across the country. So its two things; if she has more kittens, get them to a vet for deworming and you could save their lives. They need several dewormings as well as blood tests and shots. But most importantly, get mom to a vet and get her spayed immediately. That is the most important thing and the ONLY thing you can do which will prevent her suffering and hundreds of suffering kittens. She will have many and they will all start repreducing on the streets as well as early as six months of age. PLEASE stop the cycle and get mom spayed NOW.
