post weaning depression

After all the kittens are gone, my mama cat searches in vain for them. Is there anything I can do to comfort her?

No, there is really nothing to be done.  Cats are very practical creatures.  Once her milk dries up, she should get over the separation and go about her business.  It usually only takes the dam only a couple of weeks.
