Question
How long after a cat gives birth does she go into heat again? The kittens are 5 weeks and the male cats are already hanging around the front door.

Answer
Cheryl,

Cats can have, what is called a lactation heat around 4-6 weeks after giving birth.  We usually like to wait a year between breedings, as this is healthier for the queens.

If you do not want to have kittens constantly, you either need to confine her or have her spayed (after the kittens are weaned).

By the way, if she does not wean the kittens by eight weeks of age, you may have to.

Best regards... Norm.
