pregnant maine coon

Question
I took in a stray female maine coon several months ago-probably not quite a year old.  Then I found a tom in the road that had been hit by a car and brought him home too but he quickly impregnated her (either feb 13 or 20th).  Last week saved a 7-8 year old kitten and the 'queen' has had her nesting interrupted by the kitten.  By either conception date, she's running late on delivery.  On Wednesday, the kittens on each side of her that I could feel were both alive and moving.  Tonite, one is clearly not moving around at all, and the other seems to be but I'm not 100% on that either.  I'm worried that there is something wrong but am not sure if labor is delayed because the kitten has interrupted the nesting (I have a small house with virtually no place to privatize for the mother except my bedroom, and when I leave her in there, she scratches to get out.  If I leave the door cracked, the kitten wanders in.  She is sleeping a lot, but otherwise seems fine.  She is not a talker, but seems to isolate herself when she's not feeling well normally, and she isn't isolating herself at all.  In fact, she has been spending most of her time the past few days laying out on the kitchen chair amidst most of the activity in the house, napping or watching on. There are no vets open on a Friday night and I'm not sure what to do from here.  I've tried a gentle belly massage, building a nest out of bed pillows for her...any other suggestions helpful and an idea of when to push the panic button would also be helpful.  I've grown quite attached to her.  And yes, I know...spaying is on the agenda after she's done nursing (assuming live birth).  The tom has found a new home so another pregancy is NOT an option.

Answer
hi Erika, I would not panic at all about this cat. If she is laying around and appearing calm then she is in no distress. You may not feel the kittens moving as much because she is close to delivering and they are moving down the birth canal. I would say that you will have kittens some time this weekend, AND I would also expect that they will be alive and well. Just let her have access to a nice cardboard box in a quiet area of the house.Put some flannel or cotton blankets in it. Avoid towels as the terry towel can snag a kittens claw and they wont be able to move.  She may not want to go there today but she will be looking for something safe and quiet when her labour starts.
