bloody butt!

Question
Hi, I have a concern about my 7/8 month old neutered indoor male cat. I've noticed the past couple times he has pooped, there has been a little bit of blood on his butt afterward, though there isn't any blood in his poop. Only a little bit of blood comes out, but I'm still freaked. I love him very much and I'm very worried. He appears to be acting like his usual self and is eating and drinking as he normally does, but I'm still very worried. Hope someone can give me some answers! thanks

Answer
His poop might be too hard / constipated.  Try switching him to an indoor brand food OR hairball food. Both versions
are higher in fiber than other dry food. I believe that Indoor Cat Chow has 9% fiber (compared to 4% average for reg. chow) Last time I checked, Meow Mix Hairball formula
has 12% fiber.

You can also according to my vet put a small amount of white petroleum jelly (Vaseline) on the tip of your finger
and put it on his tongue to eat  this has stool softening
effect. There is also mineral oil but I'm not sure of the dosage for that.  If your cat will eat canned pumpkin, thats a great source of fiber.

After you have tried this...if the blood is still there after a week, I would give my vet a call and describe what is going on and all the things you've tried.

Thanks
