new mama cats

I live in the country and two of our cats just had kittens.  This morning when I saw one of the mama cats she looked like she had gotten into a fight.  Will mama cats fight with each other due to having kittens?  Also, if the cats are close to going into heat again, will they fight off a male cat? Thanks.

Yes to all of the above, Melissa. Mamas will fight to protect their offspring, and they will also fight off a male if they are not ready to have another litter yet. They can't control their cycles anymore than we can, but that doesn't mean that they want to have another litter at that moment.

These fights can be very dangerous for the kittens, their mothers, and the tom. I recommend getting all the cats spayed as soon as possible to avoid any injuries to any of your pets.
