Can you crate a cat?

16:12:50

Question
We just brought home a 10 week old little boy kitten. We have a little girl pappy, a schnauzer, that is about 10 months old. She stays in her crate during the day while we are at work and at night when we sleep. We are wanting to do the same thing with the kitten. We got her a crate the same size as the puppy's and have put the kitten in it just to try it out. He cried until I got frustrated and called my sister, who has dogs and cats that are all crate trained, to see what to do about the kitten crying, because not only was it annoying, it was breaking my heart. She said put a towel over the crate. That has seemed to work for now, but I guess my question is, can you crate a cat like you can crate a dog. I don't want being crated to make the kitten crazy or mean. Is it ok a crate a cat?

Answer
Alisha,

Yes, you can crate a kitten like you can crate a puppy.  It just takes them getting used to being crated.

Just make sure you have a litter pan and water dish in the crate for the cat.  A 10 week old kitten cannot hold its pee or poop like an adult can!

Why do you feel you need to crate the kitten?

Best regards... Norm.
