QuestionMy cat of 14 years has always had a bad vomiting problem. Over the last year it has gotten worse and he has lost weight. What can I give him to help aleviate his stomach problems?
AnswerValerie-
If you haven't already, cut wet food and treats out of his diet, and switch him to a geriatric cat food specifically designed for older cats. If you've done that and it hasn't helped, I suggest "drop" feeding instead of "free" feeding your cat, and using a very shallow bowl or a plate to feed him from, rather than a deeper bowl.
Drop feeding from a plate ensures that the cat will eat more at once, and more slowly, rather than having fast snacks throughout the day. The quicker a cat eats, the more air he swallows, creating bubbles in the stomach and making the cat vomit.
If you're already trying both of these options, I really do recommend taking him to the vet for a $40 wellness check just to make sure there isn't something else bothering his stomach this time around.
Good luck!
