Odd, Hyperactive Behaviour

Question
Hello Karen! I just adopted a four month old cat and it's acting really strange. He's always jumping on shelves, tables and no matter what I do, he keeps doing the same things. When I pick it up and put him down he started hissing and scratching me and it hurts. He doesn't want to be petted and if people come near him he started being aggresive to them. He's just so hyperactive.

Sometimes he growls and stays under the couch and growls and growls and he also hisses. It's sneaky and dishonest! HELP!

Answer
Hi Maya,

He is acting like this because he is afraid and stressed out. If you can, give him a "safe" room for himself. A bedroom or an area where he can feel secluded is good. Move his food, water and litter pan there. He needs to feel safe until he gets used to you and his new home. Spend some time in there talking quietly to him. Give him some special treats, (deli chicken works great). He will get over his behavior. Eventually he will seek you out. He just needs time. Good luck.

Ciao Karen
