Question
Hi, I have 2 male cats that are 4 years old.  Both are altered.  The one cat howls at night.  He turns on the touch lamps in my bedroom by rubbing his face on them all the while yelling.  He then knocks off everything on the night stand and jumps across the bed to the other stand to turn on that light.   This goes on for hours.  I eventually get fed up and go to the bedroom door that is always open.  He follows me to the door and sits in the hall way when I close the door.  I do not know what to do.

Answer
Elizabeth,

I have two suggestions for you....The first is to play with your cats with interactive toys a couple of hours before bed. The second is to shut the cats out of the bedroom so that you can sleep without being disturbed. A good night's sleep is more important than your kitty's hurt pride and eventually you will be able to have the door open again without your kitty driving you bonkers during the night...Your cats will have to get used to consistant attention and play a couple of hours before bed and eventually they will be less likely to look for the attention while you try to sleep. Good luck, and please keep me posted on how things turn out. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me again.
