Question
I have three 5 month old kittens, all males.  One of them, the one I call Beaux, is very aloof.  They stay outside during the day hours but I bring them inside at night and they stay on the back porch, its screened in.  Anyway, why doesn't Beaux come to me when I call him, the other two do but he wants to run off and I have to chase him down.  I have a feeling it is a game with him but I am not sure.  Anything you can do to help will be appreciated.

Answer
Before I get to your question directly I have to say something first. Many people seem to think that its Ok for  cats to just go off on their out there, but its not true. The average lifespan of a cat that lives outside all the time is 3 years whereas a cat that lives indoors all the time can live to 18 years old. The reason is that there is so much out there to harm him. Other cats will start fights and carry diseases and pests he can catch some of which can be fatal. Sam with other animals out there. He can get taken, stolen, hit by a car, or eat a poisonous plant or lap up antifreeze from a car. There are many other possibilities but you get the idea.
You have males and they will be sexually mature very very soon - within the next month. They need to be fixed/neutered. Males are much more rambunctous and yes right now his running may be a game, but he's just as likely to never come back at some point. He's playing now but he could also be experiencing the first sense of puberty and that can be the reason he wants to run/stay out so badly.
I recommend you keep them in, or at least inside the screened porch all the time and get them fixed at 6 months old. Even if they stay in they should be fixed - better for you in terms of their behaviour and better for them to avoid their desires and crying. Also if you plan to keep them in the screened porch, you don't want other cats coming 'round because your guys are mature - I mean strays like females in heat and toms looking for a fight. You'll have cats wailing around your house.
