car anxiety

Every time I put my cat in his carrier (which he fights)then in the car for a 20 minute ride he ALWAYS urinates and deficates. I have tried not feeding him a few hours before but he still does it. Does anyone have suggestions?

We had a cat who used to do that.

A couple of thoughts:

(1) Have a carrier big enough so that you can have a small litter pan and litter in the back of the carrier and have plenty of room for your cat.

(2) About half an hour before the road trip, we would put the cat in an old carrier, with a small litter pan, and, sure enough, he would do all his business.  We then would move him to the carrier with which we were actually going to transport him and he would not do any more.

If you do (1) and (2) does not work, you will still have the mess contained to a litter pan.
