Question
HI Iris,

I remember you have helped me a lot with various things over the last year and a half or so with my cats. I have a girl cat which is about a year and a half old. When I'm in the shower, she comes and sits and waits on the bathmat outside the shower for me, crouched on the ground. When I come out she miaows louder than normal, rubs herself against my legs sometimes and even tries to lick the water from my legs...it is the same sounding "miaows" all the time, only when I get out of the shower. I assume because they are the same sounds every time, she is trying to talk to me and tell me the same thing. Do you have any idea what she could be saying?

Answer
Well, I can think of a couple of possibilities. When you shower, you are changing the way you smell slightly. She may find this a bit confusing -- after all, there yyou are, you are still Mom, only you look different and smell a little different so it could be mildlly disconcerting for her and she could be looking for reassurance.

But also, cats are fascinatied by water. They don't necessarily want to be wet by it but drops of water, whhethher falling from a fauucet or someone's skin, are an endless source of amusement. And water dripping from a faucet is always tastier than water in a bowl -- so it follows logically that water dripping from Mom must be even tastier, right?  :-)
