Question
Hi..
I have one cat and when we have her dry/wet cat food out in the kitchen we have a really bad problem with ants, and they are always crawling in her wet food (mostly) and sometimes the dry food.  So we always have to pick them up. Before we got the cat we had ant traps in the kitchen and no problem but now we cant set them out because its some type of poison in the ant traps.  So maybe there is sometype of ant traps that are safe around pets but i never heard of them.  So i hope you can help...let me know what you think.

Answer
Katelyn,

I have used the little flat discs that have holes in them and put them in corners and in cupboards when I had a problem with ants. Also I used the canned ant spray and sprayed outside where the ants could come in. Spray under the sink and inside cupboards where your cat doesn't go. And keep the cat out of the area until the smell of the spray goes away (The oily base will remain to kill ants).

To keep the ants out of your cat's food get a shallow baking tin or something similar, put water in it, and set the cat's food dishes in that (with the food in them). Ants will not or can not go through the water to get to the food. Keep dry food in plastic containers with tight lids. And throw the cans of wet food outside in the garbage instead of in your garbage in the kitchen. It sounds like you have grease ants instead of sugar ants so don't leave anything oily or greasy (like empty cat food tins) sitting in the garbage or where ants can get to them.

I hope this helps. I know it's an annoying problem (and quite common).
