Question
Hi, my cat has swollen toes, one of which is so grossly swollen it's twice (or larger) the size of the other toes.  He chews on his feet until they bleed. We've switched to unscented litter, but it didn't help.  What could be causing such irritation on his paws? I don't use many cleansers or chemicals on my floors, only PineSol every two weeks, but his outbreaks don't coincide with usage of the PineSol.  Any information would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Answer
Emily,

There are many things that could cause these symptoms. You need to have your cat assessed by a qualified vet to determine whether the cause is medical or behavioral. Given the severity I would think that it may very well be medical. It could be anything from allergies to parasites, foreign bodies or infections as well as immune conditions and many other conditions. Good luck, hopefully your pet is easily treated and gets better soon. If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to contact me again.
