QuestionMy mom's 10 yr. old part Maine Coon cat gets bad mats of hair under her chin. She won't allow any brushing or combing except a rare 1-2 swipes. She will let mom "finger" the mats which helps only a tiny bit. A groomer is out of the question...this cat can't even go to the vets as she is out of control snarling and biting. She only likes my mom - nobody else can touch her. Is there a product that could be applied to the mats to make it easier to finger-comb them? I'm thinking something like a de-tangler you use on kids hair.
AnswerConnie,
It would not hurt to try a detangler. Meanwhile after you get the mats out, cornstarch can be used to keep the coat more separated and somewhat mat free.
In extreme cases, I have seen cats taken to the vet, put under anaesthesia and the mats clipped out!!!!!
