Question
I have a pair of polydaytal kittens...brothers...8 months old...Cheech and Chong...They have been eating Iams Kitten chow with no problem...Yesterday, Chong started vomitting...predominately whole pices of food...I am concerned and wonder what to do...I had some cans of Iams Lamb and Rice and allowed him to eat a little wet food...Does he need immediate Vet attention?  Frightened beyond belief...I love these boys beyond belief...Thanks for any advice...S

Answer
Sally,

My guess is that your kittens may have worms or intestinal parasites. I would have a vet check to make sure. Vomiting is not an ailment, it's a sign. He could be eating too fast also. Do you feed free-choice? When they have full bowl always available they tend not to eat so fast and just nibble when they are hungry. You also need to change to adult food when they are a year old because kitten food has too much protein.

If it is worms (check for rice like things clinging to their bottom) then get a wormer from your vet, not an over the counter kind. The worms are getting immune to the kinds you can buy off the shelf. A vet has the latest in wormers.

There are many other things it could be also like a blockage in the intestines or even constipation. That is why it is always good to have a vet check it out.

I have Polydactyl cats too. One has 24 total toes! 6 in the back (instead of 4) and 6 in the front (instead of 5). I also had one born that had 7 toes in front, but it died right after birth from other complications. And I have one that his paws look like catcher's mitts.
