Question
I have a cat that just gave birth 3/24 to litter of 5 kittens.  All are doing well. She has moved them once from a box to under our clothes racks in our closet.  Just this past week she has started bringing down one cat and leaving the rest upstairs.  She brings it to me in the living room and lays it down.  she will look at me and meow and lets me pet the kitten/pick it up and pet her as well.  Then she takes it back upstairs to its spot.  She has done this everyday for the last week and it is not always the same kitten she brings down.  Is this normal...is she just wanting me to notice her kittens...I'm just confused because I thought most cats wanted to keep their kittens in a private area.  Do you have any thoughts on this?

Answer
Michele,

I do apologize for not getting back to you sooner, unfortunately I was out of town and I just got back. Based on my experience there could be two things happening. The first is that your mama is very proud of her little family and she is showing off her favorite kitten to you. In this case your mama may very well be asking you to baby sit or just ooh and ahh over how wonderful her and her baby are...The worst case scenario is that the kitten in question may have some sort of an issue that is not apparent to the naked eye...If this kitten dies suddenly then you will know that this is the case, sometimes mother cats can sense when a kitten is weaker and is going to die. I hope that this information helps. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me again...Also, feel free if you would like to send a picture of your new little family, I do enjoy seeing the pictures and admiring other people's feline family members.
