Question
should i be worried about cat litter dust? i am asking this because a friend used her spare bedroom for storage as well as for the litter tarys and i do not think she ever went in and dusted or clean through things for a while, until last week. can things still be used or donated?

Answer
Melissa,

As long as litter pans are cleaned out at least 3 times a week and washed in bleach water (1 part chlorine bleach to 32 parts water) and aired out till the following week (this means two litter pans), litter dust should not be a problem.

You can reuse anything if it sits for quite a while as most bacteria or viruses that might be carried on litter dust die off pretty quickly.  If items are cleaned thoroughly most should be reusable (unless we are talking about years of accumulated grit).

Best regards... Norm.
