loud meowing

Question
I have an 18 yr old female spayed cat who has always been very focal her entire life. She has to announce herself when she enters the room.   She is hard of hearing and her meowing has gotten louder and louder due to her going hard of hearing.  She has gotten worse at night when I'm trying to sleep. She does have plenty of water and food before I put her to bed and I clean her box 2x a day due to her being in renal failure.  She is on thyroid medicine and pills for blood pressure. So yes, she has been to the vet recently.  She just likes to talk and it is driving me crazy!! I live in a condo and am worried about neighbors complaining.  I can hear her through the wall when I'm down in the lobby.   Would a dog collar that zaps her when she meows work to keep her quiet at night or is that too mean? I've tried the water bottle idea.  Lasts 10 minutes and she is back to the meowing.  I'm ready to ;ull my hair out cuz I can't get any sleep and it is affecting my job!

Answer
Cindy,

At age 18 you have done a great job with her.  However, what you might want to consider (and please do not get angry at me) airplane ear plugs like the kind they give people for Trans-oceanic flights.  You will not be able to hear her.

As for the neighbors, they will not be able to hear through the walls, even though you can hear her outside your door.

No discipline is gone to stop her from doing this and the dog apparatus for stopping barking will not work with cats.

I am afraid I cannot really give you more help on this one.

Best regards... Norm.
