Kittens with eye infection

Question
Hello.  I have a litter of kittens all of whom seem to have some sort of watery eye infection. I wash their eyes everyday, and put Opticlear in their eyes.  We had this same problem with a litter of kittens we had in Pennslyvania last year. My Eye specialist gave me a prescription for TobraDex a few months ago.  Can I put a couple of drops in the Opticlear for the kittens?  Will this hurt them?  I have been running back and forth to the Vet here with my mama cats (2), and I don't have the money to take these kittens unless it is necessary.  Will this TobraDex work? Thank you.

Answer
Vivian,

Remember, I am NOT a vet!  How old are the kittens?

The tobradex used straight should not hurt the kittens.  One drop in each eye is enough. IF it helps, great, if not, you may have to take them into the vet.

The important thing is to keep the kittens' eyes from crusting up. BORIC acid (powder is available over from any pharmacy) is a very safe, inexpensive way of doing this. Make sure you sterilize the water before mixing with the BORIC acid powder.  You can use a fresh tissue dipped into the warm (not hot) BORIC acid solution to wipe any crustiness from the eyes.  Wipe the eyes as often as needed and do that before you put in the tobradex.  I would do the tobradex one drop 4 times a day until you notice improvement.

Best regards... Norm.
