Male cat does not like boyfriend

Question
I have an 8 yr old spayed male cat.  He is the only pet in the house.  I have 1 male roommate and they get along fine.  My cat and my boyfriend use to get along just fine.  I left for the weekend with my boyfriend and when we returned, my cat was afraid of my boyfriend and myself.  It took a week for my cat to be normal with me, but he has not warmed back up to my boyfriend.  This incident happened 7 months ago.  My cat does not hiss or growl at him, just cowers down and tries to hide under everything whenever my boyfriend is in the room.  The only time the cat is comfortable is at night.  He will jump on the bed and sleep next to me, but as soon as my boyfriend moves around or wakes up the cat will hide under the bed.  Is there anything I can do to get my cat to warm back up to my boyfriend?  Thank you very much.

Answer
Jessica,

It sure makes me think that something happened between the boyfriend and the cat when you were away.  It may have been a very minor thing for the boy friend, but, maybe, not for the cat.  The best thing to do is for the boyfriend to make pretend the cat doesn't not exist unless the cat comes over to the boyfriend and invites the boyfriend to pet him. The boyfriend should let the cat make any approach. Cats do better if they think the interaction is their idea.

It may take some more time for things to improve and they may never be as they were before.

Please let me know what happens.

Best regards... Norm.
