Belle wont eat

Question
This sweet stray cat had been around my boyfriends neighborhood for at least a week, so I took her to a vet for a check up and any shots she might have needed. The vet thinks she is about 9-10 months and has already been through a heat cycle. But Belle as what we call her, turns out that she is healthy, so I take her home and all day she is sleeping on my bed, she wants nothing to do with the one I bought her, and she won't eat or drink. I have tried to trail food, but she nibbles and runs away. I have tried to pick her up and show her the food, water and litter box and then she growls and crawls away... what should I do?

Answer
Hi Michele, You didn't say how long this has been going on. If it is only a day or two I would not worry too much yet. However, if she is refusing to eat the food you give her that is not typical behaviour for a stray. Are you sure she is lost and that she is not owned by a neighbour or ??? If she has been cared for by her owner and fed a different type of food she won't immediately want to eat something different. A stray cat is usually so hungry they will eat anything. This cat sounds like she has finicky tastes. Please double check that no one is missing a cat. Sometimes cats will hang around a different house when their owner is at work or away on holidays and there is only someone there once a day to feed her. They will even act like they are starving initially as every cat likes to see what tidbits they can get out of a new person. But if your vet says she is healthy and she is not eating.. I would suspect she is just not all that hungry ! Perhaps you could write be back and give me more details as to what you are feeding her and how long you have had her.
