Question
I have a couple of questions. 1 My cat is pregnant and i was just wondering what are some of the obvious signs that she is about to drop? and 2 What are some things that i can do to make sure the kittens are healthy and to make sure she looks after them because last time my other cat was pregnant she used to separate her kittens and not feed some of them and they all ended up dying. Please help i don't want the same thing to happen again. Thanks.

Answer
Hello

I assume by your first question that you don't know the dates your cat was mated so you will be unable to count the 65 days?    In this case it is not easy to predict the exact period that she may kitten.  If she has not long been mated, look out for her teats getting bigger and pink.  At that point she is around 3 weeks pregnant.  She will start getting restless near to her time and will start looking for somewhere to nest. Her teats will begin to fill with milk too so that is another sign that kittening is not far off.

As to your second question, she may have separated some kittens away from the rest last time as she knew there may be something wrong with those particular kittens.  Cats are the same as humans, not all cats make good mothers and if she won't feed them then you will have to step in to help with bottle feeds.  Just because she didn't do very well with them last time doesn't necessarily mean she will be the same this time.  However if she is then I would think about having her neutered as it obviously doesn't come naturally to her.
