Question
I have switched my dogs from heartgard to iverheart because it is less expensive. One of my dogs borders on 49-50 pounds. I worry that the 26-50 pound dose may not cover her but do not want to give the up to 100 pound dose. The less chemicals the better is what I think but don't want to place her at risk for heartworms since I live in Houston. Will the up to 50 pound dose be safe for her. Do they allow for possible weight gain by a couple of pounds? Thank you for your time.

Answer
I am not familar with Iverheart as we use Interceptor exclusively where at work.  The heartworm medications in general are effective for the weights on the label.  If you dog is going OVER 50 pounds, then you should go to the next size.  If she is 49-50 pounds, then the 26-50 pound size is just fine.  You could also call the company...there should be a phone number on the box.
