8 month chihuahua with a broken paw

Question
QUESTION: We brought him to the vet, paid 500 dollars to keep him overnight, and they quoted his surgery at 2,500 dollars!!! Does this sound correct? The paw is broken right before the joint, and there's no way they can splint it.

ANSWER: Hi Jillian - I understand the surgery and the amount is about correct.  You can skip the surgery and the area will heal with just a splint.  Your Chi is guaranteed to have arthritis in that leg/joint in the future.

We can go with some supplements and vitamins... To help heal the area. But, like I said, your kid will have some discomfort because of the past healed break.

Let me know if you want to try some supplements for healing.  Low cost and many times effective.

Talk to you soon...Good luck

QUESTION: Actually, a supplement sounds great. The break is so awful though, I hope it would heal properly with a splint. What kind of supplements and things should I look for, and what kind of result will we have. Thank you!!

ANSWER: Hi Again- Well, if you delay the surgery, I don't think it will cause any further damage.  Did they say the tendon was pulled or the bone needed some hardware.  It would have been nice for them to give your more info on what was going to be done.
If you have the wording for me that would help... Then, I would know if they had intended to do an OPEN Reduction???

Also, you could ask for the x-rays and take them to another vet for another opinion.  YOU own the x-rays because you paid for them.  Many times vets will send you with x-rays, to another vet..... YOU have rights.

Ok, Here is what I suggest for your baby... Again, if you can provide me with more info that would be helpful.

First off - place her on the following diet:

DIET If possible, reduce the amount of grains and starchy carbohydrates in the diet and increase the amount of protein. This can be done by feeding a better quality food, by using canned instead of dry foods, by adding fresh foods such as eggs and meat to the diet, or by feeding a  home made diet.  I would like to see her on Innova Evo ( small bites) / mixed with the Innova Evo canned wet food.  ( Wellness CORE is also good with no grains).
YOU need a good protein diet for her..
Make the change over slow - Mix a 50/50 mix of her old food and the new food x 1 months.  Then, go to 100% of the NEW food only.

NEXT - HERBS And Supplements:
1.
Salmon oil - give her 1 teaspoon per day mixed into her food.
Do this always - for a lifetime...Good for her!  Make sure you find pure salmon oil - they should sell it at the pet store.
2.
NuJoint Plus - this is a must for this little girl.  She will need just 1 per day - for a long time / this will help to repair and also helps to avoid some of the Arthritis.
This will cost you about .55 cents per day or less
3.
NuVET Plus - This is an immune system booster and Healer... Again, this is something she should be on for her lifetime.  Excellent for her skin, coat and bones.... reduces pre-mature aging and joint problems.  (Will cost you about .25 cents per day) ( she needs 1/2 a wafer per day)

PLEASE CALL FOR THE NUVET AND THE NUJOINT TOMORROW  - THEY ARE OPEN 8-4 CALIFORNIA TIME ZONE: Give them order code 81098/ They can't sell to the public without the BREEDER/VET code 81098.
1-800-474-7044 ( tell the girls Marie sent you from The Doggie Chalet Hotel and All Experts)

The NuVET and NuJoint are guaranteed to help or they will refund your money.
Not sold in any stores, only thru vets, breeders and kennels.

4.
Vitamin E (1) 50 IU - Please give your baby one per day - you can pop the capsule open with a pin and squirt the liquid into the food and mix in well.  This is a product that she should be on for a few months.  Make sure you buy a good quality brand from Walmart or Target in the Vitamin Section.

Ok, that is a start for your baby.  As we go along we can talk more supplements if needed.  I would like to see how she does on the above LOW Cost suggestions ... before we add anything.

Exercise - Mobility:
Please have the vet splint her or make one yourself.

YOU may be able to buy a finger splint and apply that to the leg/paw..
Here is a fancy splint you can buy on-line:
Here is a link to a great site - the splint will cost around 40.00.
Just take a look.. ( they have dog and cat sizes... )

I am ready to work with you two... Let me know when you have gathered all the products and we can start.
Please let me know if you have trouble finding the food brands I suggested.
Looking forward to working with you!

QUESTION: hi! i've so far collected the nuvet and nujoint. we got him re-casted yesterday, and he's done with his pain pills. all that's left to get is salmon oil and vitamin e.. the funds are getting low, especially after all these vet bills, but should i start cody on the nuvet and nujoint until i'm able to get the rest?

Answer
Yes, Please start him on the NuVET and NuJoint right now..
Salmon oil and vitamin E is very low in price ...
Let me know how the little one is doing...
Make sure he eats the NuVET and NuJoint.... sometimes you need to break it up and hide it in some wet dog food or cottage cheese?
Others will eat it right up from your hand.... Depends on the dog.

Let me know how he does and if you have any questions... please ask thru my private e-mail-
