Dog shedding

Question

My jack russel sheds a lot when I pet him. Otherwise, he is very healthy,
active and happy but, I'm worried this might be a sign of a deeper problem.
Is it?

Answer
This time of year most dogs shed- if you live in the northern hemisphere that is. House dogs shed the most because their bodies are insulated from the extremes of weather outside most of the time.

But diet is usually the biggest culprit in shedding. My pets shed somewhat, but they do not leave handfuls of fur behind when I pet them.
They also all eat only Science Diet foods which have such optimum nutrition that shedding is very minimal.

I don't know what you feed, as you didn't tell me, but if you put your dog on Science Diet Adult for Sensitive Skin you will see a huge reduction in hair loss. The way that SD is formulated your dog will get a lot of nutrient dense food with less food in his bowl. Made with the highest quality ingredients and full of anti-oxidants and EFAs (essential fatty acids) for a healthier skin and coat, Science Diet pets have soft, beautiful fur and as I said, shed very little. It saves you money since you don't need to buy expensive EFAs in bottles and put it on the food. You don't need any vitamins either because it's all in the food. It costs less per feeding than the average food because they eat so little.

Take the 3 bag challenge and see how your dog can benefit. I do not work for Hills but have been recommending and feeding it for over 29 yrs. I have a lot of happy people feeding their pets with it. It takes three weeks for a food to start to show results in a pet's hair and skin so you need to have at least one 10lb bag for that. If you don't see any difference, Hill's offers a 100% money bag guarantee.

Let me know how he does in three weeks.
