CERF EYE EXAM

Question
I recently had a litter of Shetland Sheepdogs CERF eye examed at 7-1/2 weeks. This is the earliest I've had them checked. Usually it is between 8-10 weeks. Three of the six pups were diagnosed with "Puppy Dystrophy". I was told that it was not hereditary and would resolve itself as the puppies matured. I have raised Shelties for 45 years having all pups eyes checked before going to new homes. This is the first time I've even heard of this problem. I've tried to find it on the internet and was unsuccessful. What is this problem? Where can I get more info? Do you have any idea why I might be getting this issue now? Thank you!

Answer
This is something I am not qualified to answer but I can tell you that there is plenty of information on it online. When I Googled puppy dystropy this is what I got. Now if that is not the same thing, your vet needs to be more clear and concise about what he/she is talking about.

Here is the best site I have found so far:

http://www.vmdb.org/dx2.html

Here is the search page I came up with searching for "puppy" dystrophy in dogs.

http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=%22puppy%22dystrophy+in+dogs&aq=&oq=&aqi=&aq=f&oq...

You may want to repost this to one of the vets in here also.
I hope you can find what you are looking for. With your track record of breeding you know what you are looking for and talking about. Some vets speak weird lingo or call one thing something entirely different.
That is why you need to ask. Apparently this isn't the vet you have been using for 45 yrs either!
Good luck and let me know what you find out.
