Question
my female chow chow is approaching 8 yrs old, she has had only one litter of 4 puppies back in 04, we kept 2 of the pups until the beginning of this year and was forced to get rid of them, well since then, my chow hasnt came back into heet, i was wondering, since we had gotten rid of the other female, will that slow down her heets, or is she getting to an age where she'll stop her heets altogether?, thx. so much.

Answer
Most dogs stop going into heat when they are seniors, which is what your dog is. She should never be bred at this age anyway.
Having other female dogs around has no influence on a dogs estrus cycle.
She should be spayed at this time to prevent any kind of uterine infections from going on.
The average age that a dog stops having heat cycles is between 7-10 yrs old.
