Dog eye cyst

Question
My Golden retriever recently developed what looks like a small cyst on the corner of his eye (on the rim of the eyelid but on the inside corner closest to the nose)
His eye is normal - no redness or watering.  Any ideas what it could be or possible treatment?  It doesn't seem to bother him at all - nor is it effecting vision.

Answer
Your dog has probably developed what is called 'cherry eye.' It is when the gland in the third eyelid prolapses.

We call it a lacrimal gland prolapse.
Here is an article on it:

It is highly recommended that the gland be surgically replaced and not removed. Do not let a vet tell you otherwise. They are easily replaced and there is less chance of the dog have dry eye later in life.

One thing about dog's that get this cherry eye is that usually the other eye will do the same thing at some point.

Now it could be that he actually has something in his tear duct on the bottom lid. A sticker, burr or infection even.

In any case, your dog needs to see the vet this week. I hope it is a simple issue for him.
Please let me know what you do find out.
