Question
My 10 year old male lab mix takes soloxine (0.8mg) for his thyroid and Phenobarb (100MG) for seizures...can I safely give him 1 Acepromazine (25mg) to help calm him in stressful situations? He has always suffered from separation anxiety.

Answer
While I understand that giving him a sedative is useful from time to time, acepromazine is NOT the drug of choice for a dog with seizures.

You need to consult with the vet that has him on the soloxine and phenobarbital-but the drug most vets use for seizure dogs is diazapam commonly known as Valium. The dosage is body weight dependent and also upon how much phenobarbital he is on.
