Question
I have a Chihuahua weenie dog cross which is having pain in the rear end. His stomach is hard, he is having pain, having trouble controlling his back legs, yet he will eat off and on and drink. There is no throwing up, blood in his stool or urine that is visible. He can urinate with out pain. In picking him up he is fine as long as you do not touch under his belly. He had this same problem about a year ago. I gave him a couple of enemas and got out some hard yet brittle substance. Once that was removed he was fine. I did the same thing this time with out any hard substance and he seemed to be on the mend, until a day later it hit again. I tried to give him another enema but this time it seemed painful for him so I stopped. The only symptoms he has is the lack of use in his legs mainly on the left, lack of defecating, and pain from about his penis area to his rectum. I am totally confused. Help me please.

Answer
He probably is blocked and he is going to get very sick if you don't have the vet take a look at him. He must be eating something that is doing this or he could even have a diverticulum, a pocket in the intestines, which happens to people and animals that get constipated often. This will fill with fecal matter and can burst- which is very bad!

So call your vet and have them look and see if that is what his issue is.  You need to call today- this can be very serious and I don't want your baby to get really sick.

There is nothing more you can do at home unless the vet can tell you what he wants you to do. But I would be worried about him having diverticulitis.

I hope that he recovers completely. You may want to do an overhaul of his diet or may have to if that is what turns out to be the problem. Some foods are more easily digested for dogs with problems like this and he may need a new diet.

Call your vet today and then please let me know what happens when you find out.
