Question
my cat is pregnant with her 2nd litter, at about 2:30pm she went into labor. she is full term, but she has been dripping blood for a few hours, i didnt see her bag of water break, but there is a kittens tail sticking out, she seems to have stopped labor...? (isnt pushing and is wandering around the house like normal) and is still dripping blood. (now it's 10:30pm)  i live far away from town with no vet... (the closest is 3 hours away! and i'm not sure i even have enough gas $ to get there) what can i do?

Answer
Hi Jasmine.  Your cat really needs to see a veterinarian ASAP.  It sounds as though the kitten is stuck in the birth canal, and this could result in the death of the mother cat and all of the kittens if veterinary care is not obtained.  I wish I could tell you something differently, but since kittens are born in their sacs, and there is a tail sticking out, this means that the kitten's sac has been broken.  I hate to say it, but the kitten who's tail is visible has most likely passed away.  Because the kitten is probably stuck, labor has stopped...leaving the other kittens trapped.  By this time, she should have delivered all of the kittens, and because not even one has been produced, it truly sounds as though a c-section is the only way to bring this litter out.  I so much wish I could tell you something differently!
Please let me know how things go,
Hilary
