Pomeranian dark spot around anal

Hi Nicole, i have a 10 year old Pomeranian. Recently i've discovered he has a lot of black spots around his anal area. Those spots are mostly on the root of the hair, and very hard to pull out or get rid of. He scratches his bottom against the floor sometimes. Do you have any idea what they are and how to get rid of it?

Hi Pauline!I would recommend having his anal glands checked and expressed as this is most likely causing the scooting behavior. And the scooting can lead to black pigmentation of the skin from chronic irritation. I wouldn't recommend pulling out the hair.
