cat head tic

Question
Hi, My cat has developed a head tic which I'm wondering if it's an ear infection or worse - neurological. I can't describe it very well, it is literally a tic, but I found a youtube video of something pretty much exactly the same. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=webowbzOzUI It seems to be annoying to her, she has trouble settling down to rest, i.e. she will lift her head and wait and then let it tic a couple of times or get up and change position a lot. She has been rubbing her face (cleaning) a little more than usual and lifts her back leg as if preparing to scratch but often doesn't. It seems to come and go, although has progressively been getting worse. I can't say if my touching her ears starts it although it did this morning, she  has always loved being tickled under the chin but has been moving her head about to be scratched on top of her head mainly and the sides more. This has occurred starting this week, so not long. My question is have you ever seen anything like this before? Could it be an ear infection (I can't see mites or anything unusual). I will be taking her to the vet on Tuesday but I fear she won't really know what it is or how to treat it. I want to cover every test possible and I don't want to be told if it doesn't seem to bother her don't worry about it. There are no other symptoms.
Many thanks for any suggestions.
Miranda

Answer
The video does show a head tic, but that is more neurolocgical than otological.  With an inner ear problem a cat will hold its head to the side and there is usually much pain.  In addition the eyes roll back and forth (nystagmus) usually. Your vet may want to take an x-ray of the tympanic bullae to see if there is anything but air in them.
