Question
I have 2 English Bulldogs. They have the diherrea one day and a normal stool the next. The female is 16 weeks and is very timid, I have had her for a week, she will not potty train, I take her outside every hour and still isn't catching on. The male is 12 weeks and has the diherrea and is trained. They have lots of gas too. I feed them Petland dogfood.

Answer
First of all, what you are feeding is most likely causing this diarrhea. Whatever else they are eating is probably contributing to that. Petland food is garbage. I wouldn't feed a mutt something like that and you are feeding two purebred dogs this food.

These foods have no nutritional value because they change the ingredients batch after batch. There is no consistency because they have what's called an open formulation. This is why they are gassy too. They are eating food that is made with what ever is on the docks that day on special.

We only feed Hill's Science Diet because it is made with a fixed-formulation, meaning the food will be the same each time you buy it. When  a dog eats something new all the time it makes them sick and gives them diarrhea. It's just the way they are made.

They need the same food day in and day out. This will keep their digestive systems healthy and strong. Keep the human food away from them also, including any tidbits of this or that. No human food, no snausages or any other kind of dog treats. Those are full of fats, sugars and salt.

The other reason you are having problems with this female is A. You are not giving her enough time- one week is not long enough to learn housetraining and B. She will have a hard time when her stool is soft one day and not the next.

Also you shouldn't be taking her out every hour, you are confusing her. When she eats her breakfast in the morning she should be taken out on a leash right after she is done. Let her walk around and when she finally goes you praise her loudly and be happy when you do. Give her a piece of her own dog food as a treat- bring one with you when you go outside with her.

Then in midday give her a small food snack and do the same thing. Repeat this after each meal and if she looks like she needs to go. Do not scold her for going on the floor.

Get your dogs onto Science Diet Puppy Growth for large breeds and in a few weeks you will see a huge improvement in their stool and their coats. She will be easier to train if she is eating good food and doesn't have diarrhea all the time.

You also need to make sure these puppies are both wormed again for round, hook and whip worms, which will also cause diarrhea. Then they should be on a monthly heartworm pill that will keep them worm free with each dose.

So get the food and get her on a better routine of potty training and you will see some improvement. Make sure you switch the food over slowly for about 7 days so as to not make the diarrhea worse.

Try the three bag challenge and you can get coupons for dollars off on this food.

Trust me, these dogs will do great on this food. Let me know how she is doing in a few weeks. Make sure they get the rest of their shots also.
