Question
I have a 10 month old male cat. I've had him since he was a kitten and always used the litter box but now I notice he refuses the to use it. He would rather pee in the tolet and poop on the floor right next to the litter box. Why could he be doing this and how can I get him to stop?

Sincerly,

Answer
It sounds like an aversion to the litter box; i.e. something about the box is disgusting him.  Make sure the box is clean--scoop it 1-2 times a day--some cats require an emaculate box.  You can try getting another litter box and use Cat Attract litter and maybe put the additional box in another location that is quiet and away from his food and water dishes.

If he continues to have the problem and you have addressed the litter box issue by cleaning and getting another one, then it's time to go to the vet.
