Cat adoption

Question
Hello! I have a VERY needy, extremely loving kitty who is about 3 years old.  She is very chatty and ALWAYS has to be around you when you are home, to the extent that she will follow me around the house and sit on the bathmat while I shower. She used to live with a dog and the two of them got along wonderfully, so she is a very easy going cat.  I got her from this woman in upstate NY who had over 300 cats in a barn behind her house, so she has lived in a large group before.
I was thinking about adopting another cat who she could hang out with during the day.  Will this other cat provide her with the kind of company I think she needs?  Should I be looking for another friendly cat?  A quiet cat?  I am not sure what to do.  Also, would a kitten be the best and easiest for both of them to adjust to?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Jaimee!  Congrats on your upcoming new baby:)  Cats will react negatively sometimes regardless of age/sex/ect.  This is just because of the new scent and new addition.  It will take some time getting used to.  Your cat may welcome the new kitty with open arms, but the new kitty, being in a strange environment, may not act the same way.  Usually within a few weeks they should be well adjusted to eachother and become eachother's companion.  I have 4 cats right now, recently lost our one old girl from cancer a few weeks back.  All of my cats have been rescued at all different ages.  Right now the ages range from 9 months old to 9 years old and they really are all best friends.  Usually, this is the eventual outcome, although there are a few cases where cats of the same household despise eachother.  Since your kitty is so sweet, I would look for another sweet kitty.  A kitten may be easier to adjust to and vise versa.
Please keep me posted on how it goes and congrats again!
