Heartgard with dogs yeast infection

Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I have a 10yr old female maltese who had 2 dental surgeries, with 3 different antibiotics as she had reactions from them. She then developed yeast ear infections.  The yeast in her ears have cleared, but now her whole groin area and other parts of her body is covered in large black spots, yeasty, crusty areas and she's bitting, scratching something awful.  I have put her on a home cooked diet of pork and turkey w/steamed zucchini and alternate this with crooked neck squash, eggs, fish oil, Berte's Naturals Ultra Probiotics and Daily Blend, also ground egg shell(no other vegetables or treats)...her diet is protein with no grains, wheat, soy. I do give her organic chicken livers cooked once every couple of weeks. I put ACV in her water and food. I just started using Micro-tek shampoo to bath her. She is eating as normal as ever (this dog lives to eat!)eliminates waste with no problem except her stools are mushy with mucus some days.    She's never had heartworm or any other problems until her surgeries.  I live in Hawaii with fleas, tic's and mesquitos abound.  I don't use Frontline or any product of the sort, but use a natural alternative that is applied to her harness.  I have no problems with tic's or fleas since using this product. My question is, she's due for her Heartgard and I really don't want to give her this anymore for heartworm prevention, especially now that her immune system is so unbalanced. I have two questions: #1 am I doing enough to help her with this yeast and how long does it take to eliminate it from the system as I don't want to put her on antibiotics again as the vet recommends and #2. Is ther an alternative for Heartgard that is natural, safe and works to prevent heartworm?  Thans you for your help. I do appreciate it as dealing with this yeast has been a nightmare.  Kathleen

ANSWER: Hello Kathleen,
Yes, there is a wonderful alternative to chemical heartworm prevention. There are homeopathic nosodes which work both as a preventative and to eliminate existing heartworms. If you would like to get some, just call me at my shop. 727-327-2356.

QUESTION: Thank you for your information.  I'm wondering if you can give me some suggestions for her yeast.  I'm going quite nuts with this problem and really don't want to see her put on steroids or any more antibiotics which is what the vet will do if I call him.  This is what I am doing for her now:  home cooked diet of just pork (she seems to react to turkey, chicken, beef, fish# zucchini or crooked neck squash with added vitamins and minerals.  I also give her acidophilus 2x per day #human grade#, also organic yogurt with live culture, ACV and calcium #ground egg shells#.  Nothing seems to be working.  I bathe her 2x a week or more if I have to with Micro-tek shampoo and sometimes will follow with an ACV rinse.  Her whole body is just broken out and she can't stop bitting or pulling out her hair.  I just don't know what to do for her except take her to the vet, but I know he will prescribe the meds that started this in the first place #antibiotics) and I am trying to avoid that.  I've been told that yeast infections take a long time to eliminate from the body, but it's been 2 months and I don't see much change. Some days seem worse than others.  If there are any suggestions or experience you have had, can you please share.  Thanks so much, Kathleen

Answer
Greetings, and if you are in the US, Happy Thanksgiving :0)

I would recommend putting her on a more consistent diet of one of the frozen raw foods such as North West Naturals or B.A.R.F. (avoid beef formulas in of them)so you can track her 'symptoms' more readily. Be sure that nothing else goes in her mouth...VERY IMPORTANT. If you like 'treats', North West Naturals is made in small cubes which, kept frozen, make great snacks. That makes it possible to eliminate all others and still keep the snackie habit.

No vet type flea control, heart worm control, etc. Go to critteroil.com and get Critter Oil to bathe her in as well as using it in the environment and as a spray periodically.

I would also recommend 2 other products, iFlora by Sedona Purely Pets, and Agrumax. Agrumax is a blend of 4 citrus seed extracts which can be used internally and externally (ad just 2 or 3 drops to shampoo and spray w/Critter Oil). It is amazing. Too much to tell here, go on line and read about it. Apple cider vinegar is also helpful both internal and topical (rinse after bath).

Bathe her THOROUGHLY (several pre washes prior to C-Oil shampoo soak cycle) at least once every other week. Weekly is good too...C-oil conditions the coat as well as healing skin and preventing fleas.

Keep it simple and consistent. The 'symptoms' that you have left after a month or so will tell us what to do next, if anything. Jumping around from one thing to another doesn't give the body a chance to heal itself. It didn't go down over night, it won't heal over night.

Also, if you haven't stopped all vaccines,DO!!!

Keep me posted, and if necessary, for homeopathic solutions from my holistic vet, call him at 352-245-2025.
