SALTWATER FILTRATION SYSTEM

Question
QUESTION: Currently, I have a 55 gallon saltwater tank and it is incredibly boring!  So, I want to put a wall of rocks accented with some fake green plants.  My concern is the filtration system.  I am using a Fluval canister system and I am worried that if I put up this wall of rocks, my tank will not filter correctly.  Is there a way to make this wall work with my filtration system?  My primary concern is the wall will be, somewhat, blocking the input and output of the system.  Is this okay?

ANSWER: just move the input and output of you canister.

if you try using egg crate and some marine foam to stick liverock to the back of your tank wall, use some macro algae for greenery this should provide enough space for water to flow through.

QUESTION: "just move the input and output of you canister."

Not sure I understand.  The only place I can place the input tube and output tube is in the back of my tank.  If I move it to the sides of the tank, it will look busy.

Answer
if you were to make an eggcrate backing for your tank you could have it standing proud of the back, kinda like a false back of the tank. you can buy a marine safe spray foam, use this to fasten the rocks to the false back you made with the eggcrate.

when you make the false back, build in compartments for the inlet and outlet for the external filter.

if you were to make it like this but use it on the back of the tank it will allow water to transfere from the back to the front. if you just make sure that the outlet from the filter puts the water back in front of the egg crate it will be ok.

hope this all makes sense so far? like i said use the reef safe spray foam to fasten the rock to the eggcrate, if you want the greens and reds of the macro algae, buy the rock with it on and stick it to the reef wall.
