Mushrooms??

Question
Hi Bill,
I am a beginner saltwater aquarium owner. Everything has gone great so far and I am really enjoying this experience. I have a question though about two mushrooms I got. One was a bullseye mushroom coral and a hairy mushroom coral. For some reason about a week after I added them to the tank they started excreting this white filament like stuff out the middle of it. Then it just fell of the live rock and ended up dying. Do you know why this could be? I acclimated them the right was by soaking them in water and slowly adding water into the bag little by little. Then I let them sit at the bottom of the aquarium until for about 4 days until I thought they were acclimated to the light in the tank. I really don't know what  could have done wrong. What do you think? Here are my water parameters:
Nitrate = 0
Ammonia = 0
Salinity/S.G. = 0.024- 0.025
Temperature = 75-78 degrees F
pH = 8.2
(if Reef/coral, please include the following)
Calcium = 410
Alk = 12

Thanks!
Andre

Answer
Hello Andre,

Your peramters look good, but your temperature is on the low side.  Not low as in bad, just low as in on the low side.  I would shoot for 78-81...

This might make it easier on your electric bill if you have a chiller running.

I also would like to know if you moved the mushrooms up after the 4 days.???

Actually mushrooms would prefer lower levels and less light then other corals...

Can you tell me what lights you have and how long they are on?

Do you have any other corals?

Please let me know the information requested and we will continue this conversation then.

thanks

Bill
